Obtaining Your RCG (Provide Responsible Gambling Services – SITHGAM201)

The RCG, or Responsible Conduct of Gambling certificate, is required by all Australian employees working in a position related to gambling and gaming services. It is not solely required by individuals whose role is directly related to gambling practice, but is also required for employees who simply work in the same vicinity in which these practices are undertaken. It is equally important that service staff of a casino have this certification as it is for dealers of a blackjack table.

A key defining component of the RCG is that while it is an important part of the foundation for responsible gambling services, the course teaches students the information required to assist problem gamblers. Strategies in support of this skill include the identification of problem gamblers, problem environments and effective communication practices. The course also covers a number of legislative issues such as appropriate signage and the maintenance of information records according to gaming policies.

Approved by the NSW Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing, Infront Staffing & Training's RCG course is a recognised qualification within the NSW gaming industry. RCG certification is a valuable asset to individuals looking for work, given gambling practices are found in a surprisingly large amount of enterprises throughout the state. It is worth emphasising that many employees of pubs, not only clubs and casinos, are required to have their RCG certificate. This tends to be due to the prominence of poker machines in these establishments.

Participants who successfully complete the NSW course will be issued with two documents:

The NSW OLGR RCG Interim Certificate, which is valid for 90 days and allows the holder to work immediately in the interim period between applying for and receiving the NSW RCG photo card. Participants should take their interim certificate to an Australia Post outlet with 100 points of identification when applying for the photo card, which will then be mailed to their nominated address.

A Statement of Attainment for the “Provide Responsible Gambling Services” unit will also be issued by the registered training organisation (RTO) conducting the course. This document will qualify individuals for RCG work in Queensland, Northern Territory, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania as photo cards are not required in these states.
